B2 Visa for Girlfriend ( am on H1-B)

Hello:

I am currently working on H1-B in US and my girl friend is in India doing her Phd from IIT. I wish to call her to meet me here and stay with me for one month in November. Her Phd is still not going to finish for another year or so.
Does anyone has any experience in these type of situation?
- What are the success rate for visa approval?
- Any information, tips will be highly appreciated.

Slim chances.
Can try though, may get lucky if proves sufficient ties to home country.

Thanks for the reply. Do you think working on a Phd for last couple of years and being still 1-2 years away till finishing it will be a good enough reason to show the tie with the home country?

Not really. Information about other relatives, property etc matters. A job would have helped a bit. The fact that she is a student weakens her case. They will assume that she will leave her PhD and join you to live in the US.

I would say she should demonstrate that she is very ambitious student and there are lot of developments taking place in INDIA related to her research area, she see her bright career in India..... add some Indian condition why she chosen "xyz" as research topic for her thesis....etc etc....Good luck !!!

The point we are thinking of making is,
- We have been together for 5 years now and been away for 4 years. We sure do not want her to drop her Phd when she has almost finished it. We can wait for another couple of years. We are ambitious enough to get our careers settled in first.
- She has commitments in her research, and she has to finish it else wouldn't be good for her career or her prof.

Got the visa!!!

Hello all,
Thanks for helping, my girlfriend had the visa interview today in MUmbai office and she got her visitor's visa today. For all those who wish to apply in the future, I hope this transcript helps:

After reading many forums and searching the internet we were not quite sure if we will make it, but she had the interview today in the Mumbai office and got the visitor visa:

- Why are you going to US?
to meet my boyfriend and tourism.

- how long have you been together?
5 years ( VO lady smiled and said pretty long)

- what do you do here?
pursuing Phd from IIT

- What is your thesis topic?
answered that

- asked particulars of the thesis?
asked that, and was pretty impressed.

- Who will sponser your trip?
my boyfriend

- what does he do?
answered that

- what is the legal status of your boyfriend?
OPT and H1-B from Oct 1.

- How much does he make?
answered that.

- How much do you make while in school?
answered the scholarship amount.

- Smiled, and asked you wouldn't marry while you are there, would you?
No ma'am, and smiled back.

- alright have a safe trip and enjoy your stay.

Immihelp has been pretty useful, obtained all the documents it mentioned, however, VO didn't ask for any of it. Whole interview lasted for 2-3 mins.
