Driver's Licence - Name mismatch

Hi,

My last name has two parts and it was too long to fit in the I94. So I wrote only one part of the last name in I94 and SSN also was issued with my last name truncated as per the I94.

Will I be able to get a Driver's licence in NJ as the name in passport does not match with the name in SSN??

I had similar kind of issue, when I came in usa I didn't know that in my passport they wrote both my first and last name in Last Name field and My middle name in my given name field...little confusing but let me give u example...

My Actual First Name is : ABC
My Actual Last Name is : DEF
My Middle Name is : GEH

But in passport they put

My Last Name: DEF ABC
My Given Name: GEH


In my visa and SSN the name was exactly similar as in my passport but as I was not aware of it while entering I put my actual first and last name in I94 and than when I went to DMV in NJ for license they denied to me saying that all records are not matching as they consider I-94,passport and SSN.

There are few option here:
You can change your I-94 records while in USA...you have to apply for it and turn around time for that is around 3-4 months.....other option is whenever you go outside the state and reenter update it in your I-94 and everything is cool....updating your I-94 while you are in us cost $320 and I couldn't afford that at that time as I was student so I choose second option and I successfully got my license....

In your scenario you may get it because you have same on I-94 and SSN but again in your passport is different.....My suggestion is update your name in I-94 while reentering and than in SSN ....Again updating name in SSN is really lengthy process if you need that info let me know I will provide it in next post
