Travel via Europe

My F1 visa in my passport is no longer valid. I got H1B approved for COS this Oct, so have I-797A with attached I-94 but no H1B visa till date. I shall be travelling soon to India and was like looking at airlines availability. The Air India flight from Chicago shows a 2 hours stop over at Frankfurt and there is a plane change. I dont know if the connecting plane takes off from a different terminal. My question is:

1. Will this require a Germany transit visa?
2. Since I dont have any valid US visa on my passport, will this be an issue while travelling back to home country, India via Europe?

Please advice.

In which of these situations do these transit visa requirements (i.e Germany), apply when the next plane to India takes off from:

1. Same airport and same terminal?
2. Same airport but different terminal?

or only when it is the different airport in same city?

For all situations if your visa has expired and different flavors of the Transit visa for each scenario. Did you read the link posted?

In either case you need a air port transit visa, im travelling Nov last week and in the same situation, i checked and confirmed you need the Airport transit visa
