Considering my position, for a green card holder who's stay is mostly outside the USA would it be a good idea to purchase an apartment/house and put it on rent?
Are there any other business options for profitable earning in united state?

Depends on the rent rate and all tax fees you may need while legilizing your income. Also depends on the country you are currenlty living in.

Since you spend most of your time abroad, look at wholly passive investments, in which you have no need to materially participate in (other than by your contribution of capital). You don't want to get stuck having to travel in order to deal with an issue. Be careful of tax-advantaged US structures that are taxed ordinarily in your home country, as credit for foreign taxes paid is wasted to the extent it exceeds your US taxable income
