  • Process for a US citizen living with parents in India to enroll for UG study in US

    Hi,

My son is a US citizen by birth. I would like to understand the process for a US citizen living with parents in India to enroll for UG study in US. How different it is from an Indian citizen wanting to enroll in an UG program in US?

Does he need to write the SAT exam and essays?
Will he need to show funds, bank balance.etc?
What are the steps he will need to do after say passing his 12th board exam in India?

    Thanks

Step 1: Apply to a US school and get accepted.
    Step 2: Get your school's Form I-20 or DS-2019.
Step 3: Pay the SEVIS I-901 fee.
Step 4: Locate a US Embassy or Consulate in Your Area.
Step 5: Fill out the DS-160 form online.
Step 6: Make an appointment for your visa interview.

US citizens are considered domestic students for university admissions purposes, while Indian citizens are considered international students. This means that US citizens are eligible for in-state tuition at public universities, and they may also be eligible for financial aid from the US government.
