  • EAD card lost in mail

    Hello guys,

My OPT was approved on Feb 20th 2015 and the EAD card was mailed out on Feb 25th, 2015 which is yet to arrive (NO USPS TRACKING INFO AVAILABLE). When I called USCIS, a few immigration officers told me that the card has not yet shipped and a few told it has definitely shipped. I created two service requests, one for usps tracking info and another one to expedite my case since it crossed 90 days. They expedited my case and sent a response on 24th March which again I am yet to receive. Today when I spoke to an immigration officer, she said that the response to my service request is that I have to file my I-765 application again. I am worried now since I my job offer would be revoked as they have already been waiting for a month. I don't know how long they will take to process my application again. However, the officer with whom I spoke today mentioned that I write the term 'Expedite' on my I-765 application and also get a letter from my employer stating that the job offer will be revoked if the candidate does not have his EAD card by so and so date. Has anyone else been in this situation? If so how long will it take for them to process my application for a Replacement Card? Any help/advice is highly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hi, I am in the same place as you are. Any updates on what you had to do. Did you use the link in USCIS to request them to send the EAD card again? Do let me know

Hi there - I am in the same position, did you have any success in ordering a replacement through the USCIS website? The link made me think they would just send out a new card, but looking around the forums it looks like getting a replacement is more complicated than that. I got a notice saying I would receive some sort of acknowledgement by June 18 but nothing on what that notice would be. I'm so frustrated that they mail something so important and expensive/time consuming to replace via USPS without a guarantee of delivery.

Anyway USPS opened a case and told me that they can't locate my combo EAD/AP card so they admit they lost it. This week it will have been 30 days since it was mailed by USCIS and will officially be late, so I think I can reapply if that is USCIS' request. I tried calling to see what might happen, but was just told to wait a bit longer and that tracking my MSC number wouldn't help as the case would be assigned new numbers. The whole thing doesn't seem right - someone could easily steal and use the card and waiting for a replacement for so long seems crazy when they need only reprint one and send it out via a guaranteed service.

I am reprinting my applications and requesting a letter from USPS to confirm that they can't locate it. I also read that you can put in an expedite request and contact your congressman - did you go through all of that or did USCIS just send out a new card? Thanks for sharing your experiences - waiting another 90 days is going to cause me a lot of problems financially

Make an infopass appointment at a USCIS field office. Take your passport and EAD approval notice. They will give you something you can use.

Thanks - I am trying to make an appointment now (they say there are none in my area). What exactly do you mean by something we can use?

They may give you a standalone document (Interim EAD) or they may just put a stamp in your passport.

Hi ljd2015, do you have any follow-up? I have the same situation and would like to know if the meeting in field office can solve the problem. Thanks!

Hi, sorry to hear you have the same problem.

I actually went to see my congresswoman's district office and they wrote to USCIS requesting expedited processing of a new combo card and refund for additional costs because no attempt to deliver the card was made.
I am not sure if it worked because I am still waiting for a reply and for unknown reasons my new case number isn't trackable online (despite doing the online application). I also claimed the insurance from USPS as they were at fault.
I think it is worth doing infopass I just couldn't get an appointment near me at a close date. My congresswoman's rep said that this happens a lot and that they usually put in that request so I went with their advice.
If you really need to travel a travel stamp is apparently something they can do but I'm afraid I didn't go through that process (yet) and am still waiting.

Good luck - this is crazy situation to end up in and I hope you get it resolved quickly
