Submitted OPT application May 24 '16 - apply separately for 24 month STEM extension
Hey my friend wanted to quickly confirm - does he have to separately apply for the 24 month STEM extension?
He mailed out his OPT application on May 24.
USCIS received his application on May 26, wherein both dates fall after May 10 2016, when the 24 month extension rule came into effect.
Also, the I-765 form he filled was version "Form I-765 03/11/16 Y" (bottom right of the form)
He tallied the I-765 instructions document (Form I-765 Instructions 03/11/16 Y Page 1), and confirmed that Eligibility category (c)(3)(C) was infact the 24-month extension for STEM and not 17 months.
He just wanted to confirm because the deadline for the application for the extension is Aug, 8.
USCIS updated his OPT application status on Aug 1 saying that the new EAD card has been produced and will be mailed out to him!
