  • OPT - E-Verify

    Hello,

I graduated August '08 from CS background.

Now, I am working full time for a small software company on my OPT. My company is not enrolled in E-Verify. But they have agreed to enroll the company for e-verify. But when my company was trying to enroll for e-verify, it says that

"Information cannot be submitted to E-Verify about employees currently working at the time that use of the system begins."

I am currently working in the company and what are the things that the company has to do in-order to enroll for e-verify.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks You

They do not need to submit your information into e-verify. For getting the 17 month extension all you need is that the company is e-verified.
First complete your 1 year OPT and then during the last month apply for the extension with the help of your university DSO.
So when your 1 year authorization ends you can submit new form I-9 using your extended authorization.
Also remember that you have report name and address of your employer and period of unemployment to your school.
This is my opinion and not legal advice.

      Thanks alot.

      I greatly appreciate your response.

In other words, the company has to be e-verified in-order to get 17-month extension and the employer need not submit my information to e-verify.

So I need not worry about whether I am enrolled or not. All matter is if the company is enrolled in E-verify.

Is there any website that gives you this information, so I can show it to my employer?

      Thanks

Your DSO is the best source for the information. Remember the $$$ the school charges from the students? They are supposed to guide you properly as they are getting paid from your pocket.

I am not a lawyer and you need to consult with one to validate any info posted on the forum and discuss your case specifics. H1b Question? Read the FAQ first.

I am not sure, if its a dumb question but however,

What is DSO? How can I get hold of them?

          Thanks
