There isn't much you can do AFAIK about the OPT. You should not have waited so long to file the OPT with USCIS. You may be able to delay your graduation or get an incomplete in a course in the summer or delay the thesis. But discuss the impacts of this on status and others with the ISO.
The flip side to it would be if they approve it, you lose some period of the OPT.
Read the OPT FAQs here:
Page 11 clearly says "It may be denied".Last edited by txh1b; 07-29-2009, 05:12 PM.
I am not a lawyer and you need to consult with one to validate any info posted on the forum and discuss your case specifics. H1b Question? Read the FAQ first.

I also have same case like, sending the package after 30 days. Can you tell me what was written on your notice that was mailed to you and in USCIS status check online. I have already received my receipt number and when I checked online it mentioned like following.
'On January 3, 2011, we received this I765 APPLICATION FOR EMPLOYMENT AUTHORIZATION, and mailed you a notice describing how we will process your case. Please follow any instructions on this notice. You will be notified by mail when a decision is made, or if the office needs something from you. If you move while this case is pending, please use our Change of Address online tool to update your case with your new address or contact our customer service center at 1-800-375-5283.'
