Working while STEM extension is Pending

Hi,

My question is, I will be filing for a STEM extension soon (sometime next week). My current OPT ends in August. I am assuming that I won't be getting the new OPT soon (I heard it takes upto 3-4 months sometimes), but can I start working for the new employer (which is E-verified) on the receipt that I get from USCIS?

Yes, you can. But it is better if you join them while your current OPT is valid so that when you enter your SEVIS into eVerify system, it will recognize it as valid.

So you mean to say that I can complete the joining formalities on my current I-20 and in the mean while start the process for procuring the new extended I-20 from university? But, then when I get the new I-20 and EAD, Do I have to reenter anything into the system?

Yes, you will need to file I-9 using the eVerify system again. Your employer will intimate you about this.
