Hello all
I have a concern following a (what I think is a successful) job interview. The HR had informed me they are doing a background check on me and they should have a positive message early next week ( this I got to know the past Monday). Here's my concern. During my job interview (about 3 weeks ago) I told the HR that I m meeting my international advisor the very next day to fill out my OPT paper work ( I even took an appointment with the international office). Only when I was in her office, she pointed out to me that my passport had expired for over a month now and she'd be unable to process my OPT app. I started working on passport renewal and I m still waiting on my renewed passport ( means I still haven't had the chance to apply for my OPT). What sounded like a promising email from HR on Monday, slightly became of a blunt one liner on thursday which read something like " have you by chance applied for your OPT or not yet".
Here are my two major concerns.
(i) Is it possible for HR to find out whether or not I have applied for my OPT using background check tools. Even if it is possible, do they actually carry out such checks?
(ii) If in case it is impossible to find out my current immigration status (whether my OPT application has been submitted or not or when the actual start date is), do they normally call international advisors to check to see if a person has applied for OPT or not? Is calling international advisors a routine part of background check?
I m not sure if I m reading too much into the blunt email he sent me but I dont want to lose this job opp. just because they think I may have lied to them.
Any thoughts/inputs would be much appreciated.
