LPR traveling back to USA / expiring passport

Hi,

Not sure you can help but I am tearing my hair out trying to get an answer to this one.

My 18 year old son is a green card holder (expires 05/07/2016) and is currently on a 2 week vacation in the United Kingdom visiting with me.

I have just realised that his passport which is British, expires in September 2007.

My question is, will he have problems getting back into the US when he returns next week?
