  • Unemployed and visiting UK enroute USA to India

    Heres my situation:

I have been working in the US in IT for the last 6 years (H1 visa) after doing a masters course here. I quit my job in Mar 07 end, and am planning to return to India in the middle of May and find a job there after taking a break of a couple of months. As of now I am jobless.

On my one-way trip back to India, I intend to visit my sister in the UK. My problem is that while filling out the online application for the UK visitor visa for 6 months, I put my status as "employed" since I had just quit my job of my own will and I was not receiving any unemplyment status/benefits in the US.

In retrospect, I think I should have rather mentioned myself as unemployed. Also the documents required (listed to me online after I submitted my application) include a letter from the employer stating the days I am taking off and the last three months paystubs. I cannot get the former as I have already quit and i have paystubs till March but not for April. Though I do have a letter from my emplyer from March (before I quit) that I have been an employee with them for the last 6 years.

I am wondering if I should call up the embassy and resubmit my application or should I just go for the in-person interview (4th may) and try to explain my situation there. Any suggestions, ideas as to how can I not further worsen my application will be greatly appreciated.

Also, how much does it hurt if I have "unemployed" mentioned on my application, will it be a good reason for rejection? I have plenty of funds in the bank ($100k +) to show that I can support myself and am not a potential immigrant, does that help?

I would suggest going straight back to India and looking for a job in a major IT company. You will be sent to the UK/US within few months all expenses paid for meeting clients... please share your experiences about your job search, etc in India since a lot of other professionals are thinking about moving back to India.
