  • UK tourist visa question...

    Greetings,

My parents, on their way to the US, they would like to stay with a close family friend in London for about a week. I live in the US and am planning to have my parents visit the US in early 2008. They have a current 10 year multiple entry visa to the US. They had done this before some years back, i.e. stopover in London for 10 days on their way to the US – at that time the friend in London had to send in a lot of sponsor paperwork as part of the UK visitor visa application. The sponsor paperwork was quite detailed and elaborate and involved having them send their financial statements, property documents and such. My folks have mixed feeling about approaching them again for such a favour, especially asking for financial/bank statements and such.

How well does self sponsorship work for the UK tourist visa? My folks have modest property in India and are retired. I would think the US 10 year multiple entry visitor visa and a confirmed travel itinerary showing a week’s stay in London should alleviate concerns with the UK consulate folks. Is there anything I can do to help with the UK visa application from the US? Can they simply book a hotel in London and not mention the visit to their friend, forcing them to take the self-sponsor path? Better/Worse chances using that approach? Any ideas & anecdotes welcome.

    Cheers

    UK tourist Visa

Apart from proving that you intend to leave the UK after your holiday period, you also need to prove to that you will not have to rely on PUBLIC FUNDS whilst in the country. What your folks could do is to make it clear in their application that, their host will not be financially responsible for their stay in the UK. In that case, they get to prove they have enough resources available for their stay and they would not have to bother their friend the UK for their bank details.
