Hi,
I am an Indian citizen and my fiancee is a US citizen holding American passport. We are getting married in India in January 2009 and she will be on a visiting visa in India. I work in UK on a work permit. I am told that since my fiancee doesn't have a resident permit in India, we can't apply for the UK dependant visa from India. She may have to go back to US to apply for it.
In that case, will the British Consulate in US accept Indian marriage certicate for dependant visa?
Also, it seems her passport needs to mention that 'wife of' column for UK dependant visa. Since it's an American passport, this needs to be done by the American passport officer. So for this, will he accept the Indian marriage certificate? Or do we need to register the marriage in US first for this?
