overstay due to volcano eruption

hi - my Tier 2 visa in the UK expires shortly, and my flight out of UK got cancelled due to the volcanic ash cloud. Looks like I'll end up overstaying beyond the visa deadline.

Trying to get some comfort regarding how UKBA will treat this when I re-apply for visa in future? Is there something in the Immigration Law that'll help me breathe easy? Or will it be subject to whichever immigration official reviews my application?

Is there anything I can do at all?

The only thing you can really do is explain the situation, show proof that you had the ticket purchased, so your intention was to leave in a timely manner. Your intent is what they will look at most.

Keep copies of EVERYTHING, including any new ticket you were given when the ash cloud was cleared, day of departure, etc.
