  • Do I need UK transit visa as my L1 expired 4 months back

    Hi All,

My head is spinning with this issue from last few days. Let me explain this issue clearly. I came to US on September 18th,2011 with L1visa through Heathrow,Brtish Airways. No one asked me for transit visa in London. Later on september 30th, 2011 my L1 visa got expired. But as I got valid I 94, I am continuing to work here in USA. I am leaving back to India on Jan 14th,2012 through Heathrow, British Airways. Now my question is do I need Transit visa in London?

I have been browsing net for answers but unfortunately didnt find any usefull information. I called BA and didnt get any straight information from them too. Finally I found some information under "Transit with out visa" concession DATV exemptions section in the below link.
UK border control - passport checks, visas for entering, customs, transiting and layovers.

    2) a valid airline ticket for travel via the UK as part of a journey from Australia, Canada, New Zealand or the USA, if you are transiting the UK no more than 6 months after the date when you last entered Australia, Canada, New Zealand or the USA with a valid entry visa for that country; or

As my L1 visa expired 4 months back and returning with in 6 months am I eligible for this exemption?
Could any one of you please let me know do i need transit visa or not? Please reply as soon as possible as my journey date is very near by.

Note: Flight arriving and departuring in same Terminal 5 @ Heathrow. 3 hours is the time gap between arrival and departure.

    Thanks,
    Naresh.

"with a valid entry visa for that country"
You don't have a valid Visa to US and hence you need a transit Visa. In my own experience nobody asks you for the Visa at any point, but don't know if you want to take that risk.
This is my opinion and not legal advice.
