Travelling from India to USA via London. Need DATV to stay 2 days in London?

Hi there,

I and wife am planning to travel to Los angeles from India on H1b and H4 visas. We will have a stopover at London Heathrow on the way and I plan to stay in London for 2 days with relatives between flights. Could someone please explain if i would need a DATV and the procedure to be done in advance?

Depending on your citizenship, you will either need no visa, or you will need a VISIT visa. DATV does not apply if you go through immigration. You are breaking journey, so you are VISITING.

Can I then stay within 48 hours and get a land transit visa?

You will need a visitor visa. Check out UK Embassy/Consulate's website for more information.

Yes, if it's definitely under 48 hours, you can. But, it would be better just to get a visit visa.
