  • Please help on Green Card Package

Hello my name is Chris and im new to this forum.
    So hello everyone .

Im right now registered at the green card Lottery and now i got 3 calls in one hour from an agent that talked 20 minutes directly that i need to buy a information package (DVD, some INformation about the us...) for 890 Euros...
I would need that package when i win in the lottery.

Then i told her i will think about it.
She said that this i not ok and i have to take it right now because she is sending the packages today and she wants my creditcard number.
I told her that i am not buying a package for 890 Euros just because she means i have to (thats a lot of money) and i can get the information also for free in the internet. My english is also not so bad, i am well educated, i have a good job and i know a lot about the United States.. (i also can speek spanish).
Her answer was that if i am not buying this package it would show that i am not really interested to immigrate in the US and i wont have a chance to win and she will call me again in 2 weeks.....

First of all i am really upset right now because thats a very unfair way to make money and to calculate with peoples hope for a better future... (How do they think that an african can afford that amount of money???)
Second they where trying to fool me telling me i have to take it now because its only now available.. (then telling me that its also in 2 weeks possible)

So now my question is: Do i really have to buy this? Is it reducing my chance of winning in the lottery? Is this legal at all?? (not a good way to represent the united states in my oppinion)

Sorry but 890 Euro is a lot of money for me and i didnt expect that...
And she told me the chance is only 60 to 1...

    Please please help.
    Thanks
    Chris.

The organization that oversees the DV program (Department of State?) doesn’t have any agents who call people to convince them to buy an information package. Submitting your information to the DV program is absolutely free and there is only one website where you should do this. The administrators on this forum tend to erase links that don’t lead to the immihelp website so I can’t put the link here, but the official site is “dvlottery” followed by “.state” and “.gov”. There are a lot of scam sites who try to make money on the DV program, by charging a fee for collecting your information which they may or may not submit to the real program. If you have already paid for submitting your information you should check on the proper site to make sure that your submission actually went through. It should be possible using the confirmation number. Other scam sites contact people and try to sell them useless pamphlets and CD’s with information you can find online (as in your case). Buying something like that doesn’t affect your chance of winning, since the people who try to sell it have nothing to do with the official DV program. They do not represent any US authority or official organization. Their only purpose is to trick people and force them to pay for something they don't need.
