Can I leave the US without my green card?

I have a little worry and would be grateful if you can assist me. I have an immigrant visa (DV Lottery category). I need to be in the USA before 25 April, 2013. Currently I am in school and would complete in May, 2013.

I will be in the US in March 2013. I want to know if I can leave in two weeks to go back to my home country to finish my studies without the green card since it takes so long to process?

Yes. Your visa will likely have a note on it saying it serves as proof of permanent residence once it is stamped. This will be good for 1 year. Once your actual GC is sent, you can ask someone to check your post and send it to you outside the country using FedEx or something.
