  • First Landing airport of DV lottery

Hi, I got my DV lottery visa last week and I gave address of my friend in Boston. There is no direct flight to Bostn from where I live, therefore I have to land first in New York and then fly or take a Bus to Bostn.

    1. If I want to apply for SSN or for long stay outside (2 years) should I go to New York or Boston? I heard NY is not a good place to point of entry and thats why I'm worried.

    2. How may hours is required for transit (if my file is being processed in NY)

    Congratulations

I suggest that you buy a ticket to Boston. To the best of my knowledge Boston Logan International airport is a port of entry and there is an immigration office. Flying to Boston via New York is also not an big issue. You will clear immigration an take a domestic flight.

Once again purchase your ticket to Boston from your departure point.

It is best you try not to take Bus or Train from New York to Boston. It can be a turn out be an adventure for a first time traveler unless you are into adventures.

Also it is best to get the file process in Boston. I hope you can stay with your friend in boston until your paper work clears

    Welcome to America :-)

      Re:congratulation

      Dear mg2009,

Thanks for your reply, im going to stay for 3 weeks for first time and i plan to fly to ny and going with bus to boston and returning back to europe from los angeles.

Its mostly adventure to decide which city to live. Could that cause me a problem?

      Thanks

As I understand it take 2 months to process a DV green card. So you might want to re-think your plan. Also what is your citizenship.

No problem with that. We did the same. Won the Green Card while I was in Australia (and born in a 3rd country), went to Los Angeles for a few days. This first entry kicked some autmated processing at the Social Security and Immigration offices, they sent the green card + SSN to my friend in Maryland (I gave his address on the green card application) meanwhile we returned to Sydney for 3 months and my friend sent the green crad to me in Australia so next time when we arrived I had my green card in my hand and settled down in Florida

                X-ray report

                Hey,
I am arriving to U.S. soon and still wondering whether I need an X-ray report with me. I received just my passport and a big yellow envelope for immigration officer at the embassy, no X-rays (which I brought to my medical exam required by the embassy).
The official information on travel.state.gov says that I should carry my X-ray with me. I don't have time to obtain a new one so I will travel without that.
According to your experience, did they ask you for an X-ray at the first port of entry?
                Thank you in advance.
