    Hi all,

We've used the USAFIS (http://www.usafis.org/) service to apply for a green card via the DV program. While I have heard of several people who have won a Green Card through them, I am beginning to seriously doubt their authenticity. Here is why:

1.) They send your confirmation number (format 2014xxxxxxxxxxxx or 2015xxxxxxxxxxxx)... how is this? Do they apply to the DV using their details, and then relay the info received from the DV back to you?
2.) You do not get your confirmation number sent to you from the DV
3.) You do not get your confirmation number from USAFIS unless you ask for it.
4.) There is no way to tell if the 'confirmation number' they sent to you by the USAFIS is real or legitimate.
5.) When we try the "forgot confirmation number" link on https://www.dvlottery.state.gov/ESC, we entered our details as supplied to the USAFIS and we receive the following message: "Information entered is not valid. Please review your Diversity Visa Lottery Program Year, Last/Family Name, First Name, Middle Name, Date of Birth, and E-mail Address to ensure that you have entered them exactly as they were entered on your initial application."
6.) We've checked and made 100% sure the details are correct.

SO, based on the above, I can only conclude that the USAFIS is in fact a scam... or is there some sort of reasonable explanation why we cannot retrieve our confirmation number? On a phone call to the USAFIS, thier agents said that if we doubt they submitted our information, we should use the Online Help to obtain more info and they the DV system is actually at fault... how can this be?

Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated.

    Thanx

    Gary

Any such private "Green Card lottery assistance" services are suspect and riddled with fraudulent claims. Submitting your application is something you can do directly for no fee.

Agreed Ray - but from my points below would you agree that the USAFIS have NOT submitted my application? If I cannot retrieve my confirmation number I must assume my details never reached the DV system...

I can't agree or disagree that USAFIS has or has not submitted your application. But the information you provided makes their process seem very suspect.

USCIS publishes warnings again and again that use of such private "lottery assist" services is unnecessary and often outright fraud, and that the applciations can be made directly to USCIS without fee.

hum... well when you play directly from the dvlottery website the confirmation number that you get also come in a 2014xxxx or 2015xxx format. so when you go to check is you win you just enter your confirmation number there, your first and last name the way they originally filed for you and your date and birth i believe and it should tell you if you selected or not. you better off just play for free directly from dvlottery website next time...good luck
