  • Booked a visa appointment a few months back, but my visa details need to be updated

    Hi all,

I qualify for an O-3 visa as a dependent of my spouse, who is currently in the US on an O-1 visa. I had applied for a US visa interview a few months back in June of this year and got an interview date for October.

Since then, my spouse's visa had to be renewed in August and her visa number, visa expiration date, etc have changed.

There seems to be no way to now change these details for my visa interview and DS-160 without cancelling my existing appointment and booking a new one, which isn't gonna be available for another 5-6 months.

Can I just show up to my visa interview in October and explain the situation to the immigration officer?

Has anyone been in a similar situation before?

    Hi there,

It’s definitely a tricky situation, but you should be able to resolve it at the interview. Many people have faced similar circumstances, and as long as you bring all the updated documentation regarding your spouse's O-1 visa (new visa number, expiration date, etc.), you should be fine. The immigration officer typically understands changes like this, especially since it involves your spouse's visa renewal. it's a good idea to bring both the old and new visa information, along with any proof that shows the changes.

Make sure to explain the situation clearly and have all the relevant documents organized. Best of luck with your interview!

It's best to update your DS-160 with the correct information, even if it means rescheduling. Showing up with outdated details may cause delays or complications at the interview.

        Hi there,

Thanks for sharing your situation—navigating these visa details can be tricky! You’re correct that typically, updating information on your DS-160 would mean canceling and rescheduling, which is understandably not ideal with current wait times.

Generally, it should be okay to attend your October interview as planned and explain the recent changes to the officer. Officers are often able to make adjustments during the interview, especially if you bring all relevant documents, like your spouse’s updated visa, new visa number, and expiration details.

To be extra prepared, you might consider emailing or calling the embassy or consulate where your interview is scheduled, just to confirm if they can handle the update at the interview itself. This might give you peace of mind.

Wishing you the best with your visa process—hope it goes smoothly!
