221(g), obtain a new passport - but no reason why

My interview was through. I've received Passport with a paper attached saying that VISA is refused on account of 221(g). You're required to obtain a new Passport and submit with OFC. There is no reason specified why a new passport is needed as my passport is not damaged, is half empty and has expiry due in 3.5 years. Any thoughts?

I got married after getting Passport. Is it that they need wife's name? Is there any place where I can get reason that why my passport was rejected?

Assuming there is no visible damage it does appear strange but could be due to name change, or addition of spouse name (which is not a valid reason though), nonetheless, you can call them or send them a mail to ask what is wrong, if dont get a satisfactory answer there is hardly anything that you can do other than providing a new passport if that is what is being asked.
