  • B1 Visa for Conference

    Hi All

    I have got very good feedback for this site and hence asking below query on this forum:

    I have a conference in US in April and I am appearing for B1 visa interview in mid Feb.

    My parents (in India) will be sponsoring/paying for my trip as my monthly Income is 14k per month. What all proofs/documents should I get from my Parents for B1 visa interview.
    Also, is there any Affidavit required from my parents.

    Thanks in advance for help.

    Ok. No offence but the truth is;

    Your low income and your parents funding your
    business trip are a big negative in itself.

    It tells the officer that you are low down in the hierarchy /you are just starting
    out in the company. So he would not expect such a person to be sent for a conference by the
    company.

    *Is the company sending you or you are going by yourself?
    *Are you single or married?
    *Any relatives in US?
    * Any previous visa denials?
    * any previous trips outside India?

        Ok. we need to answer this in more detail;
        (The visa officer will ask you this too);

        Why do you need to present this paper in US?
        Is this a necessary requirement for your Phd in India?
        Or is it optional?

          But i hope low income/stipend will not be any issue? What all documents should i get from my parents as a sponsor proof?

          For other questions: Publishing papers is part of PhD and we publish this in international journals. This Journal has invited for the presentations after shortlisting.

          Thanks for the help.

            I said in my first post that it will be a major issue.

            They rarely look at any Indian financial documents.
            They will decide on your verbal answers.

            Anyway take your dad's IT return/income proof.

              Application put on hold and PAssport also holded in Embessey

              Thanks for the guidance you have given so far.

              Interview was scheduled for today morning. They have asked for few additional documents (will share the list in some time) and have kept the passport with them in embessey.

              My Q is: How much chances are there for such cases? Is this a positive signal? Is this a usual practise by embessey or this is unsual?

              Thanks

                Common practice for science and research applicants ; Your case is under admin. processing; security clearance and background check due to your Phd.
                Likelihood is good if all is clear.

                Please post your complete interview in Q and A form for the benefit of others.

                  Hello,

                  My interview was on the 14th of Nov 2012 and I was placed under admin processing I finally got a call on the 11th of Jan 2013 to submitt my passport that my visa has been approved but I couldn't send in my passport as I was busy with work and also applied for a visa to Hungary.

                  The Hungarian embassy with held my passport from 19th of Dec and finally sent it back to me on the 8th of Feb after battling with them. Then I submitted my passport to the U.S consulate on the 11th of Feb 2013 for the stamping and was asked to come and get it on the 14th of Feb 2013 but I went and it wasn't ready I tried to track it on the [email protected] but it says "there is no update for the passport number submitted". So with the help of this site I found out I could check it on

                  https://ceac.state.gov/CEACStatTracker/Status . Which I did only yesterday 19th of Feb 2013 and found out it was on Admin processing again. I am wondering why it has gone back to Admin Processing again, when the told me it was approved and I should send in my passport.

                  Please advice.
                  Thank you.

                    Thanks. one more Q

                    Sure. I will be sending the required documents and will post my experience in experience section. That section helped a lot for the preparation.

                    One Question - What is Itinerary ? Is this a certificate from travel agent for the dates of travel or will this be date wise plan in USA..e.g. Conference, SF city tour etc..

                    Pls guide.

                        Admin Processing result

                        It's been around 20 days now and we are still waiting for Admin processing result. Can we send a reminder email on the top of previous email as Conference is starting on April 1.

                        Please suggest the best practise for this.

                          Advise Please

                          The questions asked here are regular questions that VOs ask applicants so I am wondering how it factors into different circumstances.

                          My husband invited my brother to visit us (I am here on a B1/B2 visiting, but have started an application for my green card). But he was denied - was only asked -

                          if he was married
                          had any children
                          where he worked
                          what he earns

                          he didn't even have a chance to his ties as being the only child at home to cater to our aged parents..

                          First on the DS-160, when asked if he had a relative - he answered yes (his brother in-law); then he was asked if he had another, he answered yes (and gave my name and immigration status - non immigrant.....could this have played against him?

                          Now he is looking to attend a seminar in his field in June as we do not know if to advise him to put our address as where he would be for the time of his visit or if to book a hotel.

                          Can people please advise?
