I am from India and I am a freelancer providing remote technical support for a web hosting company based in the US. I have been into the web hosting industry since around 8 years and I have been with my client for 5+ years now.
I wish to attend a conference related to the web hosting industry in early October. I have been reviewing a lot of resources related to applying for Visa and I would like to know if the chances for getting a Visa for my profile are good or not. From my self assessment I do see there are a few negative points, so I would like to hear others opinion.
-----
Late 20s, unmarried (yup, both negative)
Have relative (first cousin family) in US who have US citizenship and living there since a long time in own house with their kids. I wish to meet them when I go there as they invited me. Not sure if it is advisable to visit them on a B1 visa?
Invitation letters & brochure (originals) from the conference organizer and also from my cousin with whom I will stay when I am in their place.
Round trip flight tickets
Hotel reservation at the city of conference
Travel itinerary for the 1 week trip
Saving bank account statement for 6 months including the monthly transactions from my client (as I will be funding myself and the bank balance is good)
Letter from bank manager showing a summary of the saving account, fixed deposit, car loan, credit card
Letter (original) from my client in US saying that I have been working with them as independent contractor for X years and that they recommend me to visit the conference
Income tax statements for the past 3 years
Property documents (under my parents name) but I am told that I can get a document from attorney showing that I have rights. I stay and work in my house and live with my parents.
Will be visiting Dubai in June for a short visit (as foreign country travel is a common question asked by the VOs and I haven't traveled outside India before)
---------
Being a freelancer is my main concern as I haven't come across any other freelancer saying that they got their VISA approved.
