  • Freelancer looking for suggestions on B1 visa

I am from India and I am a freelancer providing remote technical support for a web hosting company based in the US. I have been into the web hosting industry since around 8 years and I have been with my client for 5+ years now.

I wish to attend a conference related to the web hosting industry in early October. I have been reviewing a lot of resources related to applying for Visa and I would like to know if the chances for getting a Visa for my profile are good or not. From my self assessment I do see there are a few negative points, so I would like to hear others opinion.

    -----

Late 20s, unmarried (yup, both negative)

Have relative (first cousin family) in US who have US citizenship and living there since a long time in own house with their kids. I wish to meet them when I go there as they invited me. Not sure if it is advisable to visit them on a B1 visa?

Invitation letters & brochure (originals) from the conference organizer and also from my cousin with whom I will stay when I am in their place.

    Round trip flight tickets

Hotel reservation at the city of conference

Travel itinerary for the 1 week trip

Saving bank account statement for 6 months including the monthly transactions from my client (as I will be funding myself and the bank balance is good)

Letter from bank manager showing a summary of the saving account, fixed deposit, car loan, credit card

Letter (original) from my client in US saying that I have been working with them as independent contractor for X years and that they recommend me to visit the conference

Income tax statements for the past 3 years

Property documents (under my parents name) but I am told that I can get a document from attorney showing that I have rights. I stay and work in my house and live with my parents.

Will be visiting Dubai in June for a short visit (as foreign country travel is a common question asked by the VOs and I haven't traveled outside India before)

    ---------

Being a freelancer is my main concern as I haven't come across any other freelancer saying that they got their VISA approved.

For a business visa, 'young and single' is not that big a negative if your purpose is concrete and
you have strong income and stable occupation in India.

    * What is your yrly income roughly ? This quest. is a decision maker .
    * Your freelancer status can be a problem but present your self as you are well settled and
    well earning.
*Do not mention you are visiting your cousin and only show a tentative hotel booking. That is very important.
You may choose to mention your cousin in DS 160 form (mention 'other' relatives in US) but do not show
you have anything to do with him. A US Cit. relative can be taken as helping you settle there.

*No need for "rights" showing property docs. They do not look at them . They mainly focus on income.
    * No need for bank letter . Bank statement and IT returns are more than enough.
    * COnference letter and client letter are very important.
