  • A 2 week B1 Visa application rejected with 214b(Probably due to payslips)

    Hi All,
I am new to this forum and first time applying for an US Visa.

Yesterday I had my Visa interview at Chennai for B1 visa sponsored by my company which was rejected by VO during interview. I had the following documents in hand.
    1. DS160 confirmation
    2. Covering letter from my company in India
    3. Invitation letter from my company contact in US
    4. Passport

    Following was the interview

    Me: Good morning Sir
    VO:

    VO: What is your name?
    Me: <told my name>

VO: What is your purpose of visit?
Me: I am going to have f2f reviews and discussions related to a chip design done from India

VO: Do you have a covering letter?
    Me: Yes
(I gave the covering letter from my company in India to him. This letter just mentions that I am an employee of YY company and on it's payroll etc. signed by my VP. Doesn't mention anything about my expenses related to US visit being taken care by my company. It is only in the invitation letter which VO didn't ask.)

    VO: What is your designation?
    Me: <told my designation>

    VO: What is your salary?
    Me: XX Lakhs

VO: Do you have your salary slips?
    Me: Sorry sir no.

After few seconds typing into computer....

VO: (A bit rude faced) How can I know if you are earning XX lakhs or XX thousands if you don't have proof?
Me: <didn't say anything. Was silent>

    After few seconds....

VO: Sorry your visa is rejected.

Hands me a blue form with 214 (b) marked with no reason given. I have attached a snapshot of this as attachment. I walked away disappointed. What do you guys think is the mistake I did?

    It is quite obvious.

Why did you not take proof of your salary with you?

My HR gave me a checklist of documents and payslips were not included. As it is my first time I just didn't know. Is it required to take payslips for B1 visa interview?

Funding is a very important part of visitor visa. One has to take proof of funds and income .

salary slip/IT returns/ letter from employer mentioning salary.

You could apply again with the proof , telling them you did not have it last time. It will be another Rs 10000 . Hope it works this time
but there are no guarantees. If you decide to apply again, I suggest you go to the US embassy New Delhi or chennai consulate website . And go through
all the documents required for a B1 visa under the non-immigrant visa section.
