no offense, your salary is too low for the visa.

And with your single status your chances, I am sorry, are slim.

experience is fine but salary is a deciding factor ,
so you must wait till you have a better salary.

Okay no offence to peace999, he seems to be a senior member and is very knowledgeable, but I don't agree with his generalized and sweeping statements on visa refusal. There is no fixed criteria for granting of US Visa's and every case is decided according to the merits.

If your company wants to send you, go ahead and apply. Just because someone says you might be rejected should not stop you from applying and especially if there is a genuine intention to visit the US.

I am a GC holder now but my first visit to the US was a few years ago and when I applied for my B1/B2, I was in my 20's , I was single, had an income of around 3 lacs per annum. I got the visa.

            Ok. no offense taken.
B1/B2 decisions are based heavily on officer discretion, so many of the criteria are not uniformly applied.
I base my posts on generally applied criteria .

BTW, the post you replied to is 5 months old.

B1 visa rejected(214b), chances of getting B1 if I reapply?

I was in USA from 2006-2011, in J1 and then in H4. Now I have changed my field from research and have started a business in my
hometown (boutique). To promote my boutique, I wanted to attend a conference where they are going to host a trade show. For that I applied for B1 visa. The interview was as follows:

VO : Good morning. Show me your passport.
Me: Good Morning. Gave him the passport

VO: Why you want to go to USA?
              Me: Answered

VO: What is your highest qualification?
              Me: Answered

VO: So, you have a degree from US university?
              Me: Yes

VO: Why do you want to shift from research to business?
              Me: Answered

VO: What kind of business you have?
              Me: Answered

VO: How many people are employed in your business?
              Me: Answered

VO: What does your husband do? And how old is your kid?
              Me: Answered

VO. Are you going for a trade show?
Me: Yes, I want to meet international clients.

VO: Are you going to sell your products there?
              Me: Yes

VO: How many piece of products are you going to take with you?
Me: Like 25 pieces of sarees, few bags and jewelleries

Then VO took my fingerprint (left hand), and asked me to wait. After waiting for 45 minutes, he called me and handed me back the passport and
214(b) form and explained me that he cannot grant me visa, as I cannot go to USA at this point to sell my products and make money in
              USA.

Can I reapply for B1 visa within a week? What new documents can I show? Or shall I apply for a B2 as I really want to attend the trade show. Or will it be wise not to apply this time?

selling merchandise like you were planning to do is not allowed on a B1. You should have answered no to the question
'Are you going to sell your products'. Your purpose should have only been to attend the show and learn about
                potential customers/suppliers.
the decision also must have taken into account whose name you wrote as a payee for the trip and your income on the form.
Do not apply now. Apply again when you have to go again some time later for a different show or a different purpose like
                visiting relatives/tourism.

Thanks for your reply @peace999. If I get a letter from the exhibition committee stating that I am only going to exhibit my products at the exhibition...... no selling, will that work?

OR can I apply for B2 within a week and tell them that I am only going for a short trip? I can get invitation letter from my aunt who is staying in California

changing statement of your agenda or changing the purpose so soon will get you a denial.

                    you should wait several months.

@peace999 I have decided to do PhD and planning to apply for F1 visa this December. ( I have done MS from an US university).
Will that be a good idea since my B1/B2 visa application was denied last June?

Though F1 will be judged on its own merit, they will ask you why you suddenly switched from boutique business to PhD?

F1 is a big decision; Being accepted in the program and most importantly the funds required for the PhD? Have you arranged that?

@ peace 999. No, I have not started applying yet, I am planning to apply soon. But since my B1/B2 visa got rejected I am doubtful that even if I get an assistant ship my F1 visa might get rejected. I started my boutique business as stop gap ( I am still continuing that) but I want to go back to research. What is your suggestion? What are my chances to get F1? Shall I apply this December or wait for few more months and apply in next fall?

I am not an F1 expert but I know this for sure that 214b( immigrant intent) applies to F1 as well. So, you should give it a good gap between
B1/B2 denial and F1. Next year is a better idea.

On the other hand, I read on your posts that you have done MS from US, you were there on J1 and H-4. You seem to have spent a lot of time in US.
And H-4 means you were married.

What about your spouse's current status?
What is your field of research? Can't you get an H-1 job with your US degree?
