  • green card for girlfriend

Hello, I have a girlfriend living in Japan and I'm not ready for marriage. But she is and wants to live in USA and find job here also. But she doesn't have green card but her dad is actually working in florida and has a green card through his company. Is there high chance she can obtain a green card through him as sponsor? (she is 19 years old and wants to be a flight attendant over here and is almost landing the job but just needs the green card) I heard of I -130 petition and wondering if that is the only form to file?

She is eligible for a visa waiver as a citizen of Japan, but that would not enable her to begin working here.

her dad can file I-130 for her under F2A category.( spouses and children under 21 of green card holders).
the category there is not much wait; only a few months .So that is good news. Her dad should file now.

        What about her mother?

ok so which is correct? one person says only like 90 day visa.. other one says I-130 (which is much better news)... The mother will work in Japan and stay with her other daughter. My question is, the dad works at florida and has green card (working there for i think 6 years now??) I was wondering does he need to be a usa citizen? or just have that green card... also what do you mean file now... it takes 2 months so earlier the better your saying?? What is the approval rate for this.. high or is like lottery system... bit nervous cause i seem to be getting serious with her and kind of sad if it suddenly doesn't work out.. america has so much space seems like its a shame that green card is so hard to obtain.. but then again maybe its for the better too.. to balance things out.. i dunnoi

Both are correct . 90 day visa-free privilege for japanese citizens is only for a temporary visit.

But you want her to come here permanently so you do not need to concern with that.

Just think I-130 , she is perfectly eligible .

Her dad can petition her mother also under this category but if she does not want to come he can petition only her daughter.
By FILE NOW, I mean the wait becomes longer if large no of applications come in . currently the wait is a few months for the visa
( it does not include processing time), so file now. Also, if she crosses 21 , she won't be eligible for this category any more.
THis is not a lottery. It is a confirmed category.

You want confirmation of what I posted.
Just google " F2A immigration" and you will find out. F2A is for green card holders not US citizens.
For US citizens there is a different category.
You can also go to travel.state.gov and look under immigration categories. This is an authentic govt. site.

            Good luck.

Read response of Peace999, and encourage father of your gal to submit an I-130 immigrant petition. That will get her here in 9-12 months, but she'll have Green Card status.

whoa 9-12 months really that long? this long distance relationship is quite hard cause i really need someone like in same room as me .. I guess governement processes take really long in nature especially if its immigration.. I'm guessing marriage is the fastest and surest way right? But thanks for all the great responeses . At least it makes me feel like she is not stuck there forever.. But then again 1 year is quite long.. So the I-130 is the only form to fill out correct? And the father who works in florida that has a green card doesn't have to be US citizen.. thanks again

Also she is 19 years old (will be 20 this march 28th) And is immediate family to her japanese dad in floriday who has green card. I read somewhere that if it is immediate family and is under 21 the processing time is faster then lets say over 21 and marriage or in laws.. is this correct? Another guy posted it might take 9-12 months and got me bit shocked.. but he also said that she can obtain only a 90 day visit... in which you corrected saying that is correct but also can obtain a green card.. so any help with this matter will be great.. And grateful for all the responses here nonetheless.
