  • Applying Visa for mother, with no strong ties. Suggestions needed

    Hi,
I am going to apply visitor visa for my mother, who intend to stay with me for one month. I stay in US with wife, on L1B visa
My mother (widow) stays with my younger brother and her mother (widow - 84 years old), in Bangalore on rent.
She doesn't have any property on her name, neither big balance. I have 12000 $ in my Bank of America account.
I understand, she can not show strong ties as she doesn't have any property on her name. Does she need to mention or write that she has a mother to take care ? Any other suggestion, which can help avoiding denial ?
    Regards

non-working widows can find it diffficult to get visitor visas but no harm in trying once .
There is no way to mention about her mother as they mostly make their decisions from the info on the form.

She has one thing in her favor she has one son in India.

What is your brother's status in India? Is he married, is he working? is he earning well?

      Hi Peace,
My brother has just started his own business 5-6 months back. Not really earning well. He is unmarried. But if it makes different, she can say, either is working or not working.
Another thing, as you said - "but no harm in trying once", if they deny it in first attempts, will it decrease chances in further attempts ?
in case of denial, I can put all my US money (which is 12000 $, which becomes 6 lacs INR) in her account and reapply in couple of months, will it help ?
      -------------------------------
Just to mention, though my grandmother (mother's mother) stay with my mother and younger brother in Bangalore on rented accommodation, my grandmother has farm land in U.P. on her name. Is that going to help my mother in any way ?

I asked about your bro because if he was married, settled and earning very well; rather than she going alone, he and his family could apply with her , showing his own funding for a brief trip to meet you. that would increase the chances for your mother.

But from what you are saying, it cannot be.
The only way is for your mother to apply alone on your sponsorship , just pray. sometimes you get a good officer.

2nd application after one denial , they look for major changes from the first one. transferring funds won't work as they don't look at that.
If she gets denied once, I think applying again on the same grounds will be wasting money.
Maybe later if her son settles down with wife and good income, she can apply again with him.

peace, I just added more details while you were replying to me "Just to mention, though my grandmother (mother's mother) stay with my mother and younger brother in Bangalore on rented accommodation, my grandmother has farm land in U.P. on her name. Is that going to help my mother in any way ?"

I would also be inviting my father-in-law and mother-in-law at the same time, they will apply from Delhi consulate. They also do not have any property on their name, but father-in-law is a government employee with Delhi government. Will it help, if they apply together ?

they do not always ask about property. If they do, it should be in own name.

I think she should apply with your in-laws . take one appointment for all 3 of them for the interview.
It somewhat increases the chances, going in a group.

Sure peace, I will do as you say. I will have her apply from Delhi instead of Bangalore and ask her to travel.
One last question - as I said that I have $ 12,000 in my US Bank. Will it be less, if I apply for all three people ? If yes, then I will put more money and wait for couple of months more before applying.

                Similar situation

Sorry to jump in between, but I can be benefited with this similar situation. I am also, almost in same boat.
I am inviting my mother and mother-in-law. Both doesn't now property on their name. Father-in-law in in Government job.
If I apply only for mother-in-law and mother, chances will be less as they do not have strong bond. Should I include father-in-law also while applying ? Being a Government employee, will it increase chances of approval, though he will not travel ?

usually they do not look at the I-134 etc. but if they do ,your salary will be the main consideration( do send the salary slip)
But be on the safe side with the bank balance too and have as much amount as possible in the bank, just in case. There is no official cut off.

He should not apply if he does not want to travel. They can assess that during the interview process .

Sir, will it increase chance if both mothers can give interview together ? Or it doesn't matter ? Considering that they do not have strong ties.

Let them apply together. And it is better they plan their travel together. Show that on the form DS160 that they are traveling together.

Will that be a single application ? I mean, they will reach counter together and interviewed together ?

they will have to complete a separate DS160 form for each of them. But create one account on USTRAVELDOCS.com so they get one appointment together to be interviewed together at one window.
