  • Proper Time for applying Visa Interview ?

Please..if someone gets a purpose of trip (one year in advance)..can they apply for the B1/B2 Visa from now on ?
    thanks

    Technically you can

    Hi Dantrolene

Technically you can apply for B1/B2 visa one year in advance of your trip, however then your acceptance or rejection of your visa will not depend upon the proposed trip, but your general eligibility.
you have to understand that VISA counselors will think that a lot can happen in a year like
    1. Trip getting cancelled
    2. purpose of visit changing
    3. other restrictions that may occur.

so basically if you apply right now, they will try to judge if you are a potential immigrant or NO. your intended trip will have no weight.

Thank you Sangeetal for your total help and sincere support.

Here's my case, so you can tell me how strong/or weak is my general condition as an applicant to apply for now.
I am a senior medical student, got accepted for 2 months clinical rotation elective at Texas Heart Institute, and to complete the process, as the program coordinator stated "I have to provide the following as soon as available: 1- Malpractice insurance 2- Health or travel insurance 3- photocopy of the Visa." Therefore, I don't want to make any travel plans or purchase insurance until issuance my Visa at first. That's why, I want to apply ASAP. This makes me wonder if should I mention this reason to the counselors in the interview, whether they asked me directly or Not, why did you apply so early?
