  • Documents Required at POE for a B1 visitor

    Hello Experts,

I am visiting the USA second time on my B1 visa. Earlier I travelled in Mid 2012 for a duration of 1 month. This time I am travelling in the 2nd week of June with my new organization for the new hire orientation and training purpose. The duration of travel is 2 weeks. I will be flying into Boston for the new hire program.
I complete my training on 27th June. After training, my plan is to travel to SFO for pleasure. Basically I will stay at my friends place in SFO for 3 days, and I will travel back to India from SFO.

Do I need to carry some additional documents other than the official company documents for my "pleasure travel." What additional questions would I face at the POE?
Note: my entry and exit into the USA are from different cities.
Thanks in advance for your help. A swift answer will be appreciated as I would need to supplement my existing documentation.

    Regards,
    Amit

for pleasure activties you do not need any documents. You will basically be admitted as B1 on the basis of your business purpose.
B1 by default allows you B2 Pleasure activities.

Thanks for the quick response. Appreciate your help.

Let be more specific. Do I need to furnish my accomodation details of my "3 day pleasure visit." Basically the plan is to travel around places close to SFO. So we may book hotels if we are not staying in SFO. Do I have to have prior hotel bookings? or Can I keep my options open and inform the customs officer that I will be booking the hotel later? Because my trip is not completely planned yet.

No bookings needed. Like I said, they will first ask you your purpose and duration. you will tell them you are here for business meetings for 2 weeks. That is it.
you will be stamped B1 and last date of stay and let in.

If your answer at the main inspection is not in line with scope of B1 then they can send you to secondary inspection and there they can ask you details of
your meetings, employment. NOT pleasure details.

Do keep a confirmed return ticket handy, they can ask for it. Even if your return is not planned. Plan it and book a return ticket. You can change it later.
