  • Need urgent help for B1 visa for attending Conference

    Hi,
I am working as assistant professor. My research paper has been accepted for poster presentation at international conference at Philadelphia. Conference is from 13th April to 15th April. I filled DS 160 form. While filling form I mentioned probable departure date 11th April and probable stay 1 week. I got travel grant from government. But I wish to extend my stay for 5 days more (9 april to 21 april booked air ticket already). Will it create problem during interview. I am married and have 5 month doughter. should I show them my travel itinerary

There is nothing wrong in booking tickets. But, in case they reject the visa, you have to loose money.

Spending 5days more after the seminar/conference is okay.

If VO ask about your itinerary, then you may show.

This is my opinion, not a legal advice.

      Sir,
Thanks for reply. But if they asked that you mentioned probable departure date as 11th April and booked ticket on 9th April. Then what should I answer.

That's why you should be very careful and fill genuine information in DS160 form.

But, generally they focus more on your eligibility and that will be decided based on following factors but not limited to.

What are your family, economical and social ties to your home country?

What is your travel history to other countries?

Is your intention and the information you provided is genuine?

Do you have any criminal background? Etc.

Above all, it is VO's discretion to take a decision.

          Good luck.

This is my opinion, not a legal advice.

              Sounds good.

Prepare and perform well at interview.
Be confident and give brief and straight answers.
Wear nice formal dress or suite.
Most importantly give the same answers which you filled in DS160.
Take all supportive documents like pay slips,
Invitation and tentative itinerary of your trip.
              Conference agenda (if you have)
Prepare well to explain what exactly you are going to do in the conference and how it is helpful for your career here.

So those are the few inputs from my end.
Apart from my suggestions, do your own home work.

              All the best.

This is my opinion, not a legal advice.
