Hello good people of the immihelp forum - I wonder if you could help me with a quick question.
I have been granted a B1 visa for the purposes of voluntary work in the US. It is annotated with "Volunteer for [XYZ]". There is no date on the annotation. The visa is for ten years.
I have a sponsorship letter from the non-profit I will be working for, which I am meant to show to the border people when I enter. My question is whether it will be a problem that I arrive a week early to visit a friend (different location, with an onward flight booked for a week later). I will still be within the visa date, but I will be a week before the volunteer work's start date (as set out in the letter). I would in any case be eligible for a visa waiver for tourism so on paper I don't look like a risky prospect.
I have read elsewhere that this is fine, but in none of the cases I read on the internet was the visa annotated. Any help appreciated.
