  • B1 VISA approved on second time

    Hello everyone,

I appeared for B1 Visa interview in Feb'18 but I was denied, I was not sure of the reason for denial but here is my experience:

    VO: Hello
    Me: Hello, good morning Ma'am
    VO: Please handover your passport
Me: Sure! and handed over the passport
VO: What is the purpose of your visit?
Me: To attend the training program organized by M/s *** & it is sponsored by my company M/s ****
VO: How much experience do you hold?
Me: Eight and a half years
VO: What is your monthly salary?
    Me: 85000 per month
VO: Briefly explain your work profile
    Me: I am working as **** & I am responsible for **** **
VO: Why you haven't travelled anywhere before?
Me: I didn't get any opportunity from my company earlier. This is the first time I have been nominated for such kind of training.
VO: Sorry! you do not fit for kind of Visa you applied as per the US law here is the details of US laws & reason for your rejection. Handed over the 214(b) form

On Second time i appeared for interview on 5th April and here is my experience:

    VO: Hi! how are you?
Me: Good morning! I am fine sir.

VO: What is the purpose of visit?
Me: To attend the training program being organized by ZZZ.

    VO: Where do you work?
Me: I work for YYYY (explained in short form)

Complete silence for 1 minute he checked something on screen.

VO: How long you will be in US?
    Me: 2 weeks.

VO: What will happen in these 2 weeks?
Me: (I couldn't understand hence asked to repeat the question), there is a hands'on product training on ZZZZ product. (VO interrupted and asked which product, i repeated again).

Silence for a moment, I interrupted by saying I have invitation letter from the company. He waived is hand to hand over the same. Had a look in it and cross-checked something from invitation letter. My company's employment and bearing the trip expenses letter was also pinned with invitation letter but he didn't had a look on it.

VO: So you work for YYYY.
Me: (Didn't look like a question still I answered): Yes sir (and told complete name in full) its a government of India undertaking and sponsoring the trip.

    VO: What is your designation?
    Me: Sr. Engineer

VO: What is your monthly salary?
    Me: 85000 per month

    VO: Are you married?
    Me: Yes sir.

    VO: How many kids?
Me: No kids, but I am going to be father in next 3-4 months

    VO: Do you have home?
Me: Yes sir i bought a home very recently.

VO: Have you ever travelled overseas?
    Me: No Sir.

VO: Where you will be heading in US?
    Me: AAAA, Washington

    VO: Happy and safe travels.
    Me: Thank you sir

    Conclusion:
    1. I don't think 85k is less salary for 8.5 years, not travelling anywhere is not reason for rejection.
    2. I didn't got opportunity to handover the invitation letter which i handed over when i got opportunity, it helped.
    3. How you react to the question is very important, last time i hesitated in a question i didn't expected.
    4. I wore formal shirt and pant, I also wore a tie but reaching there i saw that no one is wearing tie or coat so i thought not to be odd one out and removed tie before interview.

Both time they have asked almost same question. And may be you didn't have any other visa is the reason. People travel to some country as a tourist to enrich their passport. For some country this is not a fact. But for us, I have heard some other same story.
