B1 conference and period of stay

Hi,

My cousin(27) has come to US to attend one doctors conference. His visa is b1/b2 but the annotation clearly gives the specifics purpose, date(nov 7-11) and venue of the conference. The conference is on november 7th but he reached to the US on october 25th.
He was grilled for 1 hr in the port of entry asking him why he reached so early. He gave some answers, the IO reluctantly got convinced and gave him I-94 for 3 months with B1. HOWEVER the IO clearly stated VERBALLY that he should leave the country on november 12th.

My question.

Is it required that he has to leave the country on or about November 12th even though I-94 is valid till Jan 1st week 2007. Can he stay for 1 1/2 more month and not effect his entry next time if he has to come on Visit for pleasure or on an altogether different visa.

Though he will be perfectly legal if he stays till the date on the I-94 but it is advisable and will be in his own interest to leave right after the conference. After this visa expires and he applies for another B1/B2 at home again, the officer will take the duration of stay into consideration because of
the annotation on the current visa.

Actually he has 10 yr multiple entry B1/b2 visa. So he wont go to the consultate for interview and visa process. His main concern is at the port of entry in the next visit either us B1/B2 or an altogether different visa type.. What kind of grilling he can face if any with the Immigration officers.

Also, if he has to apply for another visa, say h1b/J1, Then he has to go to US emabassy in india to get the new visa type stamped. How will his chances of getting a visa effected based the preious B1 visit(which is the present one)?

Ok. Mostly CBP officers deny entry only on the basis of gross violations
like previous overstays but you never know, since he was grilled on his first
entry , he may have trouble again entering on a B1/B2 if he stays too long.
Same for a j-1 visa since both B1/B2 and j-1 require a non-immigrant intent.

He will not have problems with an H-1b since it does not require a
non-immigrant intent.

i am a pt working in coimbatore planning to attend a workshop in usa. i like to know the paper work to be done regarding this.

i am working in a institution which is going to sponsor my trip. what are the documents to be submitted by the institute.

in 2002 i got a f1 visa rejection under 221g .will it effect my chances of getting b1 visa. anyone can comment on this

221g is not an absolute refusal; it means you should have given them more info/documents they requested or your visa
had gone for administrative processing. Why did you not follow up with the embassy when you were given 221g?

-what is your age?
-single or married?
-income roughly?
=your job title?
-what is the workshop about?
-what does the company make and turnover of company?
-have you ever visited a foreign country before?
-do you have any relatives in US? what visas?

my annual income-2 lac
work shop is physiotherapy related one
my college is going to provide the sponsorship for the trip
i havent visited any foreign country, planing to go singapore next month, will it anyway help me in visa process

You have not mentioned why you did not follow up with 221g?

Documents to be submitted;
1. Day to day Schedule of the workshop and evidence of your registration for it.
2.A letter from your college mentioning the following;
*that your are employed with the college since------(date),as-------(post)
with salary-------.
*that the college wishes to send you to attend workshop-------name,
place and dates of workshop.
*the apprx. expenditure to attend the workshop will be--------
*that the college has allotted ---------amt. for the entire expenditure for the trip-------
3.Your salary slip.
4. Your Income tax returns if any.
5. Take some brochure of your college where you are employed,
they may ask for it to know more about your college.

Go to singapore before applying. It will definitely help.

thanks for your reply. regarding the IT returns . can fixed deposits can be shown as the source of income. what would be healthy bank transaction.because most cases are rejected on the basis of insufficient/inconsistent bank transactions. please do add a note on this

SInce your college is financing your trip, you should not worry about showing finances. But you never know they may ask for your assets;
so you must carry your salary slip, evidence of all deposits, insurance policies, shares, bonds, property papers. Write everything down on a piece of paper showing your net worth at a quick glance, have it certified by a CA if possible.
