  • US Visa for Job Interviews

    Hello people,
i would be grateful for your advice on this:

I am an Indian citizen and I have been invited for an interview by a large and very well known US software company.

I am concerned about whether I will get the b1\b2 visa required, Since I am a recent college graduate with no demonstrable ties to India (I am single, no fullitme job, no property etc).

    Some Background:

I graduated from a top university in Canada and studied in Canada for four years. During that time I visited the US thrice on a 6 month b1\b2 visa which has now expired.

Even though this interview is to be held in the US, the job itself is in Canada.

Any advice on how to go about this would be welcome.

    thanks!

I think that if the job is in Canada, you have a good shot at a B-1 visa.

Please read the information here: http://immihelp.comhttps://www.immih.../business.html and come back with questions.

Have the company send you an invitation letter to attend this interview and describe the job position (specially that is is in Canada).

      Hey PraetorianXI
      thanks for the reply!
following your advice, I have asked the company for a letter stating that:

      1) The interview is in the US but the job is in canada
      2) The company guarantees that i will return to India
      3) The company is picking up the cost of travel, accomodation, food etc.

      will this letter be enough?
i have nothing with me to prove "ties" to india. is there any other document (except the forms) that i need to take to the visa interview?

Thanks a lot for your help!

You have not ties to your home country? no property? no family?

I think that letter will be good. Make sure it states the nature of the job (such as how much it will pay and stuff).

Thank yo so much for your advice - i really dont know where else to turn!

I am single, 23 .. and have no property - my parents do live in India though.
Since i am going for an interview for a job in canada - how can i even claim strong ties to India?

I did my undergraduation from Canada and just came back last year, I do not hold a fulltime job in India at the moment.

I can get the company to put the nature of the job on the letter.. they wont put the pay on it though, since that is decided *after* an offer is made..

btw if it helps the company is Microsoft...

So anything else you recommend I should take to the visa interview - any other document etc? The interview is in a different city and I want to make sure I get it right the first time...

Any and all advice regarding this would be welcome - thanks!

Take information regarding your studies in Canada and your visas to that country and how you did not abuse that visa, etc.

ps: Microsoft... ewww... I am a Macintosh user

              hey.. thanks again!

So I take my university degree .. and the letter... my canadian student visa and expired US B1\B2 visa are in my passport...

should I try to take any documents for proof of ties to canada? - i have an open bank account there (almost empty).. and my uncle lives there..? or is just the letter and the degree enough?

sorry if I seem overcautious on this thing .. but I really wanna get this visa stuff out of the way and focus on the actual job interview!

btw, just curious - how do you know so much about this stuff?

PS - dont go ewww yet :P Microsoft sells more software for the Mac than anyone else (except Apple themselves) -both windows and office run on the mac now

Just bring evidence of as much as you can. Anything you can think of.

This is a particular case, since your ties are not to your home country.

But I think you will be fine.

                ps: Micro$oft... eww.

                  I-94 not submitted!

I just found an I-94 form stapled to my passport - apparently I forgot to turn it in!

my visa interview is in 9 days and i need to be in the US by 26th.. i really dont have time to do much about it now!

the I-94 was valid till june 29 last year... I have immigration stamps showing my return to canada well before that.

Any advice on how to proceed?? I'm really *really* worried now...

Return it at the interview and bring the boarding passes that prove that you left before then.

so this is not "sky is falling" bad? how big a deal is this?
I dont have the boarding passes with me anymore (this was a year ago) .. but i have stamps on my passport from Immigration Canada showing that i returned to canada (and later to india) .. before the date on the 1-94 expired..

[also you are amazing! i dont know how to thank you for all this help!]
