I am a Brazilian resident, currently staying in Etna, California. I came to the US to be part of a volunteer program called CCTG. This program trains volunteers to go to Africa and Latin America. It works like this - the volunteers comes to the US to do some training and found raising and after 2 or 6 months (depending on wichit program) go to the thrird world countries, to be a volunteer for a few months and then come back to the US to present our volunteer work for two months.
I am a part of a Latin America program. I came to the US on Jan 27, 2009 to start my traing. I can stay here legaly until July 26, 2009. With the program I am supposed to go to Belize in the beginig of July and come back in december for the two last months. I already have my ticket to go back to Brazil in January, 2010.
The VISA I have is B1/B2.
After a while with this organization I found out that it has some principles that I disagree and that I don't feel confortable working with. I also don't feel well treated, so I want to abandone this project. But I already have my plane ticket valid until January and I have already taken this year as a break from University, so there is no point for me to go back to Brazil right now.
My question is - is there any way that I can change my VISA status so that I could stay until the end of this year legaly working on the US? What kind of VISA do I need to work for 6 months?
I would be gratefull if you could answer as fast as possible.

You can't really get a work visa in your situation.
