Can I apply for GC without visa stamp

I'm planning to change my status from B1 to L1 A. I want to know if I need to have L1 visa stamped on my passport before applying for GC. If needed can I go to Canada to get the stamp or I need to go to my home country for stamping?

You don't need to have a valid visa or to have the same visa as your status. Visas are only for entry, and if you don't need to enter, you don't need a visa.

I assume you are already in USA with B1 status, If so, then yes, you can switch from B1 to L1 (if you already have an approved L1 petition with you) - you really do not need visa stamped in your passport.

GC & B1/L1 are separate & independent process. You can apply for GC even if you don't have L1 visa stamped.
