Can passport renewal in USA on B1 visa?

Hi,

I came to USA on B1 visa recently. Since my passport is expiring in few months, I want to renewal it within USA. I wanted to know whether a passport can be renewaled on B1 visa through Indian Ambassy here.

I have "Employer Address proof" document as proof of residence.

I would appreciate your help!

Hi Rasheed ,

its not possible to renew the passport in US itself. To be in Safe side come back to home country and get the passport and come back.

I was under confusion whether to do the renewal in India or in US. Many people told to send the passport to NewYork Indian consulate, if they don't do they will return back. But, I am afraid to do so as it would be a problem for my return journey. Though still I have 4 more months visa validity, I was checking through immihelp whether it is possible to renewal here.

Is it 100% not possible here? Thanks for the advice!
