Urgent help on Old passport

Hi,

I have applied for B1 visa. My passport was reissued in 2009(previous one expired), but I don't have my old passport.

I checked in other people's passport which were reissued. All passports have
'Old passport cancelled and returned' written on the last page where the old passport details are mentioned. But mine doesn't contain any such stuff .
The company guys are saying that old passport is a must for visa interview.

Please let me know if anyone has faced a similar situation. Can i ask the passport office to reissue me a duplicate old passport( i know it's very strange asking PO to reissue a duplicate of old passport). Request someone to help if they know anything
