[urgent]Evaluation of Application for B-1 Visa

Hi,I have recently been offered the job of an unpaid research internship for one year in a US university and would like any advice on which category I would fall into .

My profile:

• Graduated with a Bachelors degree (B.Tech) in July 2010
• Worked as a Research Assistant for a period of 7 months after graduation.

I have been told that I wouldnt qualify for a J-1 visa since I havent worked for 5 years and I have read that I wouldnt qualify for the F-1 visa as I am not a student anymore.

I have read the B-1 Visa information and believe that I might be considered as I do intend to participate in my research with no income from a us based source and this would help me in my research activities.

I would like to have a second opinon on whether I have assessed my application correctly or whether I have missed something.

Any comment/help would be extremely helpful as it is quite urgent.

There is no rule of 5 years for J-1 visa.
