Travel on B1 ( L2 is on 221g)

My scenario:

1. I hold a valid Mul entry visa B1 from company X. My wife holds L1 Visa and in US now
2. I left the company X and applied for L2. It went into Admin processing 221g pink slip. No doc asked. Probably background check. Passport is with consulate.
3. Meanwhile I joined company Y. They are asking me to travel to US on business.

My questions:

a) Is the B1 visa which was issued when I was with Company X still valid?
b) Can I get my passport back from consulate and travel on B1 to US?

Kindly clarify.

c) I would also like to know if I can travel on B1( as visitor) since my spouse is on L1

I called consulate and mentioned that I want passport back so that I can travel on B1 (as visitor). They asked me to send a mail on this and they will reply. I am still not sure if this will put my L2 admin processing at risk... Please let me know your views....
