I attended my Visa interview last week. The Visa officer was a very jolly gentleman. He granted Visa to all the folks before me, about 9 of them, all categories (H1, L1 and B1).
I was asked following Qs:
VO: Good morning.
Me: Good morning, How are you?
VO: Good.
VO: [Some Question on my company CEO]
Me: [Gave appropriate answer]
VO: What is your designation in current company ?
Me: Senior Developer
VO: Purpose of visit.
Me: Discussions, New Hardware Migration, Training etc.
VO: You mean, internal meetings/discussion/trainings.
Me: Yes sir.
VO: How long in current company ?
Me: 7 Years.
VO: How long you will stay in US?
Me: 4 Weeks.
VO: What is your current salary?
Me: [Told him the actual salary.]
VO: Your visa is approved. You will receive your passport in 3 days.
Me: Thank You and have a very good day.
VO: Same to you. Have fun.
End of Visa Interview. It was all in a very friendly manner, as I had expected of any US person.
The visa officer didn't take any docs other than my company BEP letter+folder, Visa application confirmation letter, Passport and Interview Appointment letter. No experience letter, no financial support, no degrees etc. I have been to US many times earlier (B1 and L1) thru my current company so maybe they had all my previous info, but this was my first Visa interview .
Here are some tips:
a) Be calm and confident. Be polite. Don't get irritated and also don't argue. If you don't understand something, please do ask them to repeat the Q.
b) Know your travel purpose properly. Don't mug up somebody's answer.
c) Know more about the subject you work on and also the folks you are going to meet in US.
d) Umberellas and Raincoats are allowed. It was raining heavily in Chennai just before I left hotel for Visa Interview. I didn't take my Umberella, so was looted heavily by Autofellow (Rs 120 for 1 Km distance
) If I had anticipated rain in Chennai, I would have taken my umberella. There is a cart outside, near the next compound, who keeps your things for a small fee. The security fellows will tell you about it, when you are near the consulate.
g) Mobiles and other electronic gadgets are not allowed, so please don't carry any of these. Bags are also not allowed. Plastic/File folders are allowed but thoroughly checked. No sealed envelopes should be there. They check each and every envelop and stamp on it.
h) No need to shout or talk in a loud voice at the Visa Interview window. The mic is powerful, talk in a voice as if you are talking to a friend standing next to you.
Received my passport with 10 year B1/B2 Visa stamp.
Best of luck.
