3 month residency requirement before N-400

I am very confused about this "Reside within the state, or USCIS district 3 months prior to the date of filing the N-400 application" requirement.
Does that mean 3-month of physical presence?
Can I make a short trip (1-2 week) abroad during that 3 months?

They mean official residence, not continuous physical presence. You go on a trip, no problem. You just have to reside there, and inform CIS that you do, for at least 3 months prior to applying.
