  • When can I apply for Citizenship?

    Hello All
We obtained my Green Card in Jan. 2001. My family and I have been outside united states for visits less than 6 months each time. When can I apply for citizenship? I heard that if one spends any time outside the states even on a visit, he/she has to compensate the time by living in the states. In short, can I apply for citizenship in January 2006 or not?. Thanks for all the help.

You can actually apply in Oct 2005. You can apply 90 days before your 5 years are over.

You can't be living outside US for more than 6 months at a time. And you must physically be in US for at least 2.5 years.
