  • Should I apply now or wait one more year? (employee sponsored GC)

Here is my situation I have an employment base GC. Before getting my CG (but a long time after the 485) my employer cold not have me anymore as an employee because of the crisis, but I started to work as self employed (as a consultant in the same field) and I even have my CG sponsor as a client (so I kept a relationship with him).

Now, if I apply now, (it will be just 5 years), I will have to state the last 5 years of employment, and I will have to write self employed (and all my tax returns will show that I filed as self employed).

Will that raise questions? the fact that I was self employed all the time? Should I wait one more year so it is 6 years after the GC?

    Thank you!

Interesting. Do you have a compelling reason to apply for citizenship now? Otherwise, I would say wait until it no longer matters that you had already been self-employed before you were granted your GC. But I would definitely consult an immigration lawyer as your case isn't as simple as mine. You should still file your case without using a lawyer though, 'cause the forms and processes are extremely simple and straightforward.

Well... that's what I did, I asked my immigration attorney, and she told me the same... If there is no reason I had to do it right now, it won't hurt to wait a little more until it is a non issue....

Now, my daughter, who had her GC as a derivative of me, will possible apply right now, but her case is different, she never worked, she studied all these years, and is still at college, so her case is different...
