  • Citizen returning after long time

    Hi there,

I am a dual citizen. I have moved, 2 months after my naturalization, to my original country for health reasons. I have been out of the US for 7 years. I had some questions.

    1. My US passport was not stamped at arrival in my original country. Would I have problems when entering the US after 7 years?
    2. I have read in the CBP site something about a nonresident status. What does it mean for a citizen to be nonresident? Is this a problem when returning back to the US?
    3. On form 6059B how should I fill out item 4 and 7? I will be staying at a hotel or with friends. I am relocating to the US... Is it a problem when I provide an address that is a hotel?

I think that there should be no problems when returning back as a citizen.

I would very much appreciate any information...

    Kind Regards

Citizens can come and go as they please. You shouldn't have any problem w/ CBP & DHS. HOWEVER: you *will* probably have problems with the IRS. Citizens are expected to pay US income tax no matter where in the world they reside.

So if during those seven years you never paid US income tax - be prepared to have problems trying get a credit card, bank loan for a car, etc etc etc.

A hotel address is fine. But, don't worry too much. You have the right to enter the US. No passport stamps are necessary.
