  • After naturalization interview I got a letter from USCIS asking me to come again...?

    Hey guys.

I've been a GC holder for 5 years and recently applied for naturalization.
I had my naturalization interview 3-4 weeks ago ago and during the interview I've passed civics and history tests just fine.
I've been told by USCIS guy: "we cannot make a decision today because not all of our systems have came back yet but I have a good feeling about the outcome".
But today I got a shady looking letter asking me to come to local USCIS offcice again:
It's 1-page letter and says: "Please come to the shown below at the time and place indicated in connection with an official manner" and "To complete the processing of Naturalization Application - N400".

I'm very confused and nervous. Has this happened to you guys?
Why am I being called the second time?
Could it just be related to gov. shutdown?

    Please advise.

    ha. nothing serious.

Hey guys. Just went to that interview yesterday and it turns out their fingerprint machine was broken during the previous interview. So they were calling in everyone to retake fingerprints. Then they asked if anything changed from the previous interview and I was also given an oath ceremony letter. That's all there was. Now waiting for oath ceremony.

You mean, the fingerprint machine wasn't working when you went for your BIOMETRICS appointment? They don't fingerprint you at your interview.

Nope. I've done bio-metrics just fine ~2 months ago.

I don't know the reasoning, but here's how it went yesterday:

        1. I went to USCIS and at the USCIS registration desk I've asked: "what is this all about"?
        2. Receptionist guy told me that it's because of the "fingerprint machine" was broken last time, that's why last time they weren't approving anyone and now they're calling everyone in again.
        3. I went to the waiting hall and then was called in to the booth N7 and some chick took my index fingerprints only from both hands and also took my picture on usb camera. She said these were necessary before giving us citizenships.
        4. Then USCIS guy called me in, asked me to raise a hand and swear to tell the truth, and then asked if anything changed from he previous appointment 3 weeks ago, if there were address changes, any arrests, speeding tickets etc.
I told him nothing changed. He then thanked me and asked to wait in the hall. (I saw agent for literally 3-4 minutes).
        5. There were whole bunch of other people in the waiting hall, and it seems they were going through the same routine: fingerprints, agent talk, waiting. Then ~ 20 min later same USCIS agent came out, game me and others a letter for an oath ceremony and I was on my way.

So yeah - I'm not sure why second (index fingers only) fingerprints were necessary... Is that a new policy maybe?
That was pretty weird and somewhat scary, but ended up being just some bureucracy thing and I'm just glad it's over with.

Now - just waiting for my oath ceremony which is in 2 weeks!

I guess now for the naturalisation interview they do that to check one's identity before approval. Or, it's for the new naturalisation certificates. Let us know how it goes, and whether this photo is on your new certificate. Good luck.

It sounds like you're understandably nervous about receiving a letter from USCIS asking you to come back after your naturalization interview. However, it's important to note that being asked to return for further processing after a naturalization interview isn't uncommon, and it may not necessarily indicate a problem with your application.

Here are some possible reasons for the follow-up:
              1. Administrative Processing: After your interview, USCIS may require additional review or processing of your case. This could involve checking your background further or reviewing some specific details that were discussed during the interview.
              2. Additional Documentation or Clarification: Sometimes, USCIS needs more documents or clarification before they can proceed. This could be a request for information that wasn't fully covered or verified during the interview.
              3. System Delays or Issues: It's possible that the officer who interviewed you was correct when they mentioned that not all systems had completed processing. Sometimes, internal checks or databases aren't fully updated at the time of the interview, which can lead to delays in making a decision.
              4. Normal Procedure: It might just be part of the standard process. USCIS could be requesting a second appointment to finalize or complete specific steps related to your case, like fingerprinting or biometrics verification.
