  • Sacramento - Judicial Oath Ceremony (Name Change)

    Hi everyone,

Had a question on Naturalization Oath Ceremonies in Sacramento, CA. Does the Sacramento Field Office have Judicial Oath Ceremony any more? (even as a special ceremony, as they seem to have changed to Administrative Oaths recently). The reason I am asking is because, I would like to change my name and that requires a Judicial Oath Ceremony. From reading many online posts, I know I absolutely need to get the "Name Change" Court Order certificate, and hence there needs to be a Judicial Oath Ceremony.

Can someone share their recent experience with changing Name in Sacramento? Things have changed recently, so ideally looking for some experience in 2013 or possibly 2012.

    Thank you!

    Pitas,

I've seen how Sacramento USCIS handles this. If you indicated on your N-400 that you want to change your name from what is on your Green Card, so long as it's not a married name, which you can change automatically, the legal name change will be done automatically for you without a separate court appearance.

That is good to know Ray. Can you share your timeline? When did you have the experience you shared? Thank you for such a quick response.

Great info Ray! So based on your name change experience just 2 months ago, I should expect the Sacramento office to accept my name change request, get it approved through a Court (automatically) and give me the Court ordered Name Change Certificate - correct? I had heard, for a Name Change, I need to be present in front of a Judge... hence confirming.

Also, do you happen to know the next Oath Ceremony date for Sacramento? Can't seem to find a schedule published anywhere.

          Thanks again!

I do these packages (petitions, Adjustment, Removal of Conditions and Naturalization) for other people. We average two or three naturalization completions a month, about half in Sacramento. Our last in Sacramento was a couple of months ago, and timeframe in Sacramento has been about 4 months.

If the name change was requested on your N-400, it will be done automatically, as part of the final processing of your application. There aren't any additional court appearances for the name change, your Naturalization Certificate will reflect your new name and that's it.
